Case Study A New Breakfast Room in Salvaged American Chestnut

Click on any of the thumbnails above to see them full size.

MGD designed a new breakfast room that features salvaged American chestnut wainscoting. The wood was repurposed since the American chestnut tree was eradicated in the 1920’s by the Japanese beetle. We removed American chestnut paneling from the homeowners den and used it to create a whole new look for the breakfast area. The island features exquisite granite called “Paradise.” The homeowners love it and call it “Paradise on the Island.” For work on the exterior of this early 1900’s home, MGD conducted an exhaustive search for matching bricks – securing many samples from multiple sources – until the perfect match was found.
